Great egret
The Celery Farm is a wader bonanza these days.
On Thursday morning, I photographed this guy near the first bench as you walk counter-clockwise around the natural area from the Franklin Turnpike parking lot.
All told, there were at least two great egrets and six great blue herons.
Note the lime green lores on the egret. As I recall, that’s some sort of breeding coloration.

I think that the secret to taking good photos is being out on the field a lot, taking a lot of pictures, using good equipment, and having a lot of luck — not necessarily in that order
Photographing birds requires a decent-zized lens (this was a 70-300 zoom), patience, and being very quiet.
Moments after I took this pic, a group of gabby walkers walked down the path, and the bird flew to parts unknown.

Gee-that’s a beautiful photo(top). Some day, I’d like to be able to take a photo as nice as that!

The top photo of the egret close up looks like a watercolor painting.
Beautiful! -
Egrets? You have a few, it seems, at the Celery Farm. (Sorry, couldn’t resist…)
BTW, I liked the turtle photo on the blog and on L-3 today. -
Nice shots… Have you seen the green herons ? I haven’t been able to get a picture but I’ve seen them a couple times in that smaller pond to the east of the main one.
