George the Butterfy Is Here!
George the Monarch, who has been staying at Lee Memorial Library, emerged this morning just before 11 a.m. today.
In the photo above, he has just made his grand opening and still clinging to his sleeping bag (chrysalis).
Thought we'd name it for George, for George Washington, George M. Cohan, or George Steinbrenner, all of whom have a Fourth of July connection. (But not King George III, who also had a connection.)
George was found as a caterpillar near the Celery Farm and brought to the library for safekeeping.
George and his younger sibling (still in a sleeping bag) will be on view in the library after 10 a.m.
A photo of George when he was in his chrysalis a few days ago and just before he emerged are below.
Happy Fourth of July, by George!
