Gauging a Bear’s Size from its Footprint

IMG_1866
Came across a webpage that should be helpful to folks who find Black Bear prints in their yard — or, say, High Mountain.

Th e webpage explains how to tell a bear's weight by its print size.

(It helps to measure the length and width of the print.)

Ken Wiegand took the photo above and measured the length of the print. The print looks to be over eight inches long.

According to the site, the bear weighs roughly 800 pounds if I figure correctly. Yikes.

The link is here.
