EARTH DAY: Teen beekeepers (w/video)

For Earth Day, The Record is featuring my story  on environmental education in North Jersey schools.
One way that young people are learning about the world around them is through environmental clubs.
One excellent club is Teens for Planet Earth in Northern Highlands High School.
The students have their own hive in Upper Saddle River.
The four-minute video above is three of the students tending to the hive.

I so enjoyed that! It is great seeing so many opportunities for teens nowadays. I wish I had been exposed to something like that growing up. As I mentioned before on this blog, I find the whole beekeeper occupation quite interesting, so I really appreciate seeing this video. I’m amazed that they got 30 pounds of honey last year. I wonder if that is typical and how it will compare to this year now that the hive is more established.
    Thank you, Jim!
