Don Torino's latest column for wildnewjersey.tv is about the importance of native plants right here in North Jersey. A sample:

"Our wildlife depends on native plants for their survival.
Unfortunately, the biodiversity of our natural places have taken a hit
by invasive non-native plants such as Japanese Knotweed and
Mile-A-Minute vine.

"They are insidious plants which take over and choke
out the vital native plants that our birds, butterflies depend on.

"And
yet even as we speak there is perhaps the largest amount of acreage that
we have in New Jersey just waiting to be protected and restored with
native plants. You know this place well, it is  closer than you think,
you can see it from your window and it lies right outside your door:
it’s your very own backyard."
