The Big Dead-Fish Clean-Up
A huge thank you to the volunteers who pitched in yesterday to remove all those dead fish from the Celery…
Don Torino's latest column for wildnewjersey.tv is about the last flowers of summer. Here's the beginning:
The air is a little cooler now. The breeze is a little crisper, and the delicate clouds against the turquoise sky tell me that summer is gone.
The Cottonwood leaves are already falling, but many flowers still hang on bringing their sustenance to our birds and butterflies.
The last lavender blossoms of New York Ironweed still stand tall waiting for the butterflies that continue to depend on them.
The russet seed heads that will remain erect for the months to come will bring birds like Goldfinch and White-Throated Sparrows as Autumn presses on.
