Incorporating the Celery Farm and Screech Owl Companion blogs
Day Two (w/audio)
First thing Tuesday morning, I went to see what was going on with owl box. Mrs. Ace was perched in the opening, with her egg below.
She made the following brief call repeatedly, with maybe a half-minute of silence in between each trill. (Download WS_30127.wma
to hear Mrs. Ace calling)
The first thing I noticed is that the egg has changed shape — it seems rounder than yesterday. Don’t know what to think of that.
Mrs. Ace flew out again briefly, perched in the opening, then hopped into the box.
She crammed some of the feathers tighter into the gap in door (see photo).
Then she arched her wings around the egg and settled in for the day — while some of us had to go to work.

Hi Jim,
I have been enjoying the blog, and happy to hear about the egg. I’m no expert, but I think the eggs come out a bit soft, so they don’t get broken when they are “pushed out” and then the shell hardens. That may explain why the egg changed shape.
