DAY 8

Mrs. Ace Update: I am sensing a routine developing in the nesting box. It has been eight days since the first egg was laid, and the count is holding at three.

Mrs. Ace spends her time incubating, sunning herself, foraging (for an hour at night), and eating.

I try to watch the monitor for signs of Mr. Ace.  He never seems to make an appearance while I am watching the monitor, but I hear him calling faintly in the distance every so often.

Mrs. Ace does spend a lot of time making a whinnying call, but she always seems to have plenty of food and a healthy appetite.

3_in_a_row I have noticed that the three eggs shift position from day to day, but that is likely the result of Mrs. Ace’s strenuous eating habits– which involve standing on the prey and noisily ripping edible material from the carcass.

The accumulation of feathers has become significant.

Although Mrs. Ace has fallen into a routine,  I feel compelled to watch the monitor first thing in the morning, first thing whenever I get home from somewhere, and the last thing before going to sleep.

Incubating I always sleep better knowing Mrs. Ace is in her nesting box, taking care of business.
