Because of the odd way that Lake Appert is frozen, a couple of American coots have been hanging close to the Warden Watch.
The shot above was taken in late afternoon yesterday; the shot at right is full frame from this morning. I did not color-correcting, so not sure why the coots colors are so different — the lighting?
Both shots give you a look at Coot feet — peculiar and unwebbed.
Also some great views of Northern Shovelers, also in close. I did not see a Cackling Goose today. He is expected to return around 3:20 this afternoon, according to a source close to the goose community.
