CELERY FARM: Swan gone
Swanophobes, relax.
The swan that swam around Lake Appert appears to be long-gone. At the very least, I haven’t seen it for a while.
Mute swans, despite their grace and beauty, are considered nasty non-native birds that drive out other species.
They do not fair well at the Celery Farm because of the snapping turtles. And for now they are gone.
In their place are hooded mergansers not far from the Warden’s Watch, plus some distant ducks for which spotting scopes were no doubt invented.
Maybe that’s the real beauty of a swan — you can see it easily clearly from across the lake.

There’s a solo swan hanging out at the Wyckoff Nature Center pond…perhaps he just moved a few blocks away.
