   The ducks are returning to Lake Appert — and a coot to boot.

   Yesterday came reports of more than dozen pintails, some gadwalls, wood ducks, a coot and hooded mergs.

   This morning a quick scan of the lake brought the coot, a distant shoveler, hooded mergansers and what looked to be a few ring-necked ducks.
