CELERY FARM: Sandpiper sepia sunset

Early evenings are primetime at the Warden’s Watch these days.

Not quite as hot out, and plenty of bird life — from wood duck families to kingfishers to black-crowned night herons. Dragonflies like to perch on snags this time of day.
This sandpaper — he was solitary in terms of numbers, at least, and spotted (by me) — hung out near the brush pile the other night before moving on.

  • Beautiful photo, full of symmetry and drama! My sick imagination tells me the log looks like a pincer-nosed sea monster about to snag the dragonfly in flight.
