CELERY FARM: Dragonfly Fest Part 3

Dragonflies

Here’s a collection of recent dragonfly shots — a different bug or two, different angles. A friend of this blog recommends this Wikipedia site for those wanting to learn more about these amazing insects.

Earlier, I recommended this excellent New Jersey site.

I only wish that bug and bird IDs came easier to me. I am hoping it’s because I have too much on my plate.

To see more dragonfly pix, click "Continue reading…" below.  The last guy turned out to be a tricky wasp.  See the comments. (Thanks, Tom!)

  • Hi, The coffee’s a’brewing and the Record has yet to be plopped on my doorstep, so what else to do but to check my favorite websites! As to your neat photos, I’ll make some non-educated stabs (against my better judgment):
First page Odonate: because of her greenness, I’ll call her a female Eastern Pondhawk.
On the continuing page: #1: Odonate expert needed (I won’t guess); #2: Your good old Widow Skimmer; and #3: Well that one is “out of Order” so to speak–it’s a Hymenopteran, a wasp, possibly a “Great Black Wasp”, “Blue Mud Dauber” or some other solitary wasp.
Now the pot has gurgled and gasped, meaning the java is brewed, and I think I heard the Record plop, so I’ll do some sipping and reading, even though I won’t find any of the Wright stuff 🙁
