Celery Farm at dawn
After seeing so many pepper birds descend into the reeds last night at the Celery Farm, I figured I was in for a nice aerial display this morning.
I was there from 6:30 to 7 a.m.
As you can see from the sequence below, the Canada geese left first (between 6:35 and 6:50), and the smaller birds left toward the end of the Canada geese departure and a bit later.
I did not see huge numbers, and I’m not sure if I missed the peak departure this year or it’s just not a great year.
I also saw several warblers flitting into the predawn twilight, and the usual suspects — swan, egret, herons, cormorant.
As I waited the sun came up, I noticed a few things.
I could see my breath (even though I had brushed my teeth), and a mist was coming off the lake.
My feet felt a little cold for the first time in a long time.
And as the birds took off and headed south, I noticed that the some of the foliage looked like it was changing in the morning sun (last photo below).
While I wasn’t paying attention, nature changed gears on me.
Sunday is officially the first day of autumn, but it is already knocking on the door.

Jim,
What wonderful pics. I am so jealous of where you live; you roll out at dawn in you pjs and take pics, right?
Thanks for sharing, caring, and being ever vigilant at our farm.

Living near the Celery Farm is terrific, except when there are heavy rains. 🙂

Awesome shots…It must be awesome to be able to go to the Celery Farm whenever you want, particularly at dusk and dawn.
