Cape May’s New Nature Boardwalk
I spent two weeks in Cape May this month, and as luck would have it, I stayed across from the brand-new Cape May Nature Trails off Lafayette Street — just a stone's throw from the pedestrian mall in the heart of town.
The big attraction is an elevated boardwalk that runs alongside a salt marsh that is brimming with all sorts of wildlife, from fiddler crabs to white ibises and a few clapper rails. The views are so wonderful that you don't have to be a birder to enjoy the boardwalk. (Great sunsets, too.)
The birding is great — I had 53 species, including a young bald eagle and a peregrine, plus plenty of shorebirds (many heard but not seen. I suggested to eBird that should be a hotspot. Fingers crossed
