ROB FANNING: Birding in the Rain…

Hello all. First a quick Thanks to Jim for allowing me to post on this blog.

Just a quick note here. Silly me looked at a certain hourly forcast last night that said "30% chance of rain" throughout the morning. So I decided to head out to my favorite place to bird (the Celery Farm of course!) and basically got drenched!

Before the heavy rain came–I did have a great look at a (solitary) Solitary Sandpiper feeding in the Allendale Brook. This is a wonderful medium-sized shorebird w/ personality. It has a spotted back, bold eye-ring, and tends to shake or shiver as it feeds.

Besides that it was the usual suspects–but when Green Heron, Black-crowned Night Heron, Great Egret, Great Blue Heron, Wood Ducks, Baltimore Oriole, Common Yellowthroat, and Yellow Warblers are among the usual suspects–well that's not such a bad thing now is it?!…

This weekend I'll be birding at Garret Mtn and Sandy Hook. Hope to be back combing the Celery Farm next week.

Until then, Good Birding,

-Rob

    Hi Rob,
Nice to see your post. I am an old reader of Jim’s and am happy to have it continue. I’m not much of a birding expert, but I guess I’m better at noticing more then most. I was just wondering if you’ve seen a Magnolia Warbler at CF yet this season. I haven’t seen one in the area (we’re in Ramsey), but my mom in Monmoth County NJ just spotted one.
