STEPHANIE: Before the rain, 5/18

This is my first post to the blog. WOO-HOO! This morning I went to Celery Farm from 9 am till noon, and it was a gorgeous morning.

My favorite bird this morning was a Wilson’s Warbler, who popped out into view as I was walking from the woods to Pirie Platform. I didn’t even need my binoculars he was so close. What a cutie!

I also heard the distinct "Chi-bek chi-bek" of a Least Flycatcher, and then it also popped into view in the very same area.

Two Black-capped Chickadees were moving back and forth from the trees to their nest box near Pirie. I’m happy to see the box is occupied.

Two loud Green Herons were calling to each other by Warbler Alley and I got photos of one in a tree (I will post those and other photos by tomorrow evening on www.purplechickadee.com on my "Celery Farm" page).

I decided to explore the north woods since I haven’t been up there in a while. I was rewarded by two beautiful but skittish Veerys, an Ovenbird, and a Northern Waterthrush pumping it’s whole lower body up and down as it foraged.

A Blue-winged Warbler was calling incessantly, and I heard a Red-eyed Vireo singing "Hear I am, in the tree," but could I actually FIND it?  No!
