The Big Dead-Fish Clean-Up
A huge thank you to the volunteers who pitched in yesterday to remove all those dead fish from the Celery…
Patrick Carney writes: "Today [last Thursday] I happened to see a banded Red-tailed Hawk in Oradell near Van Buskirk. I found this unusual because the red-tails I have seen weren't banded."
Now that he mentions it, I seldom see banded Red-tails either. Anyone know the reason?
My thoughts are that few Red-tails are banded; only when they are in rehab, or caught at a banding site. Not like other species, such as Eagles, who are being studied, and are banded in the nest. The Red-tails are doing well, and we have to make sure that continues by conservation efforts to preserve their nesting areas.
All rehabbed birds are banded so maybe it was one that was rehabbed and released.
