Arrivederci, squirrels
I didn’t see any activity in the nesting box yesterday, and at first I thought that Momma Squirrel had gone out and kept the babies well-hidden. A day later, I still see no signs of activity.
I think the squirrel family up and left us, with not even so much as a note.
Maybe they’ll move back, but somehow I don’t think so.
I am guessing they moved because:
a. The nest was too small.
b. The nest was infested by bugs (I saw this on a Google search).
c. The arrival of predators.
d. None of the above.
I am thinking "c," because early yesterday morning I saw two furry creatures, slightly larger and fatter than house cats, about 10 yards from the nesting box tree.
My first impression was young raccoons.
I have seen momma cats move their entire brood overnight.
I’ll keep an eye on the box, but I fear this sumer replacement show has been suddenly canceled.
For now at least, it appears the squirks have moved on.
