Ace in the hole
As the hours of daylight grow longer, Ace is spending more time in his box during the day.
His one apparent indulgence: He loves to hop atop the opening and sun himself for long stretches.
These days, Ace does not fly until it is almost completely dark –around 7:25 p.m.
Periodic checks of the screech cam during the evening have shown a couple other interesting tidbits:
* He is still bringing home his meals (including a mouse on Saturday night).
* He seems to have no trouble catching mammals despite the recent five inches of snow.
* And he is spending more time closer to home. Saturday night, he perched in his opening for about an an hour.
I figured that maybe Ace was hoping for a mate to arrive — but maybe he wasn’t much hungry, and he decided to relax for a spell instead of hunting all night.
