A Winter Walk on High Mountain
Decided to enjoy a winter's hike on High Mountain before all the snow melted. I've heard of cars going from zero to seventy in seconds, but you seldom see temperatures going from twenty to seventy in a couple of days.
I made a very short video of a very small waterfall, above, and realized I don't know the name for dinky waterfalls — waterstumbles, perhaps. I hope someone comes up with a better name.
Maybe cascade or cataract would suffice. Word games aside, these little falls are pretty cool.
In the meantime, the highlight of the walk was three very loud and rambunctious Pileated Woodpeckers. Good views of two, but only an iPhone to photograph them with.
A selection of pix from the Red and Yellow Trails are below.
Included are a distant shot of Pileated (not quite as bad as no shot), a snow-shoer, and a trail memorial.
Don't you love Beech leaves in winter?

I suggest calling the little waterfall
“A Murmuration of Water”.
