A new duet (w/audio)
One of the nifty aspects of the screech-cam that I tend to take for granted is the audio.
But to listen to Mrs. Ace while you watch her can give a totally different dimension to what you see.
Now that Mrs. Ace is clearly incubating nearly 23 hours a day, most of the images of her seen through the monitor are pretty static.
But in the evening, if you turn up the sound, you can hear Mrs. Ace calling — often at intervals of 10 seconds or so.
The call is a now-familiar whinny.
Every so often, in the distance, you can hear Mr. Ace make a drumming noise in return.
The other night, I was able to record a short duet — as Mr. Ace flew up to the nesting box and stuck his head in the opening for an instant.
If he dropped off food — and that’s why I figure Mrs. Ace was calling — he didn’t drop off much.
But the interlude did provide a few seconds of audio, beginning with Mrs. Ace whinnying and ending with Mr. Ace making a drumming noise and his mate responding.
Here is the audio Duet 0411.WMA
Note: The audio is a Real Media file. I am trying to use a different format so that people with Macs can listen as well. In the meantime, my apologies.
