A Look at John Fell’s Diary
On a recent trip to Washington, D.C., my wife Patty and I got to look at John Fell's journal during his term as a Continental Congressman from New Jersey.
Allendale Town Historian Joanne Hart had told us about viewing the journal at the Library of Congress, and we finally got it done.
Above is part of the first inside page. Below is the journal, encased in Mylar sleeves, on a foam reading platform.
Below is a sample of the diary — Fell meets with General Washington.
Another sample mentions Petersfield, Fell's estate, which included the Fell House and a bog now known as the Celery Farm.
The whole journal was published in the early 1970s in the book "Delegate from New Jersey," by Donald W. Whisenhunt.
Yesterday's John Fell post is here, or scroll down.
