Celebrating Allendale’s Red-shoulders
On Thursday, Allendale’s mayor and council are going to proclaim the red-shouldered hawk as the borough’s official honorary bird in recognition of the raptor’s storied history here.
The red-shoulder, which is listed as endangered when nesting in New Jersey, has bred successfully for more than two decades in Allendale, often changing nest locations in different parts of town every few years. The hawks have been rescued on more than one occasion, including once by the legendary Stiles Thomas.
It would be great if you could attend the beginning of the meeting to show your support. Borough Hall is at 500 W. Crescent Ave.
