What critter made these marks on this tree along the Ramapo River in Mahwah?
I received several answers, ranging from Pileated to beaver…
A guy using iNaturalist who showed the tree said the damage was done by a porcupine… I think he's right.
By the way, do not do a search for "porcupine tree" on Google.
