Incubation begins
Mrs. Ace has most likely begun to incubate her eggs — a process that is expected to take between 26 and 31 days.
That may seem like a long way to go, but time has a way of getting away from us.
Early May will be here before we know it.
Although she flew off for a little while around dusk last night, leaving three eggs in plain view of the screech-cam, she came back and settled in soon after.
Her two main actions last evening seemed to be calling for food — at regular interviews, with that whinnying call of two nights ago — and to eat that food with vigor.
The meals, delivered by Mr. Ace, appear to be small birds and small rodents.
In the image here, a bird feather from a recent meal remains near her mouth.
It has been just over a month now since I first saw Mrs. Ace moved into the territory, and since I started the blog.
During that time, far she has moved into the "main house" — the nesting box — and laid at least three eggs.
Keeping count is getting tougher because she sits on the eggs most of the time now.
