A new nest
As I looked out my window Friday morning, out of the corner of my eye I noticed a bird flying into a nearby rhododendron.
I got out my binoculars, scanned the shrubbery for the bird, and saw a robin building a nest.
As you can see (or can’t see), the nest is deep in the rhododendron.
But that’s just as well.
Using a tiny stationary remote camera to photograph a nest with is one thing. Stnading near a nesting bird for any length of time — or getting too close for any reason — is another.
The top photographers I know shoot only from a distance, and then only briefly.
In the coming weeks, I’ll sneak a shot every one in a while and keep track of any eggs, but otherwise I’ll let the birds be.
The robin below was also photographed from my window — but he wasn’t exactly keeping his presence a secret.
