Red-shouldered hawk injured in Allendale

   Hawk_in_hand2

The male red-shouldered hawk who has nested with his mate in Allendale near the Ramsey border since 2002 was taken to the Raptor Trust this morning after it flew into a window.

Although a Raptor Trust rehabilitator thought the hawk stood an excellent chance of recovery, the fate of the nest — the female is currently sitting on eggs that could hatch any day — is in doubt.

Allendale Marsh Warden Stiles Thomas took the bird to the avian rehab center.  A diagnosis is expected tomorrow or Thursday.

The hawk was likely chasing prey at the time of the accident.

The complete story will appear in The Record on Wednesday.
