Backyard bonanza
I don’t know about you, but this spring has been an amazing year for backyard birds where I live.
And I am not talking about the screech owls, or even the female wood duck
that appears to be nesting in a box nearby (I just saw her fly into the box for the third or fourth morning in a row).
No, I am talking about the robin that continues to nest
under the window (two nestlings as of today), the Baltimore orioles who have been hanging out in my backyard (though I can’t seem to photograph them very well),
and a variety of warblers — from black-and-whites to yellow-throats — that I have not seen before within sight of my window.
I also have male and female hummingbirds that hit my sugar feeder regularly, and all the usual suspects that brighten a person’s day — cardinals and chickadees and woodpeckers and titmice and blue jays.
All in all, not a bad view.

I have to agree with you, Jim. This is a good year for the less then common birds in the yard. For the first time we have Phoebes nesting on the garage. It’s as if the word is out about bird friendly environments and they’re flocking to us.
Cheers!
