Perspective
This spring, something just as amazing as the Fab Four could be happening in another nesting box just beyond my backyard.
But I don’t have a miniature video camera inside the other nesting box to capture any pictures, so it goes on almost unnoticed.
Five years ago a friend and I put up a wood duck nesting box within plain sight of my picture window.
But no wood ducks ever gave it a second look — until the April nor’easter.
I believe that a female wood duck has been nesting in the box ever since that storm.
Any other year, it would be a huge deal. But this year, all eyes are on the screech owls — because they have the camera on them.
I saw the momma wood duck long enough this morning to grab a photo, but otherwise she is sitting on eggs in anonymity while the owls get all the attention.
That’s just the way life works sometimes.
