Pileated woodpecker at Celery Farm
For the second day in a row, a pileated woodpecker has been seen at the Celery Farm.
This a huge, beautiful woodpecker, and about as close to an ivory-billed woodpecker that any of are going to see.
It was seen near the Franklin Turnpike parking lot at 10:30 a.m.
Several of us got a nice look. I raced home for my camera, and returned in time to barely see it in the distance.
This was the first time I’ve ever seen one in the Celery Farm. It was a treat.
Maybe again tomorrow?

I’m so jealous. I have never seen a pileated woodpeacker. My husband, however has seen them several times in the Darlington Park surroundng area. Specifically, at the nearby cemetary and on the also nearby UPS property. Although he hasn’t seen them this year yet, it is something to keep in mind for those who like to look for them.
