Owlets doing fine
I have to say that I was worried about one of two of the owlets yesterday when they seemed a bit overwhelmed with the heat to the point of panting — breathing with their mouths open.
At least of two owlets lay flat on the floor of the nesting box, with legs out and not moving much.
By last night, however, they had all rebounded nicely.
In the video here, they are awaiting a meal.

Diana, my female owl disappeared for a week,
but she was sitting on the eggs. Late at night the male would bring her food. During that time she rarely came out except for bathroom breaks.
Does anyone have owls nesting in or around Gainesville Florida. Wild Birds Unlimited in Gainesville wanted to come see my owls but mine have fledged and I cannot find them now. Let me know and I will pass on the info.

You never know with screech owls, but I would think that you would see an adult at the opening on occasion…
Keep your eyes peeled over the next week. If you don’t see any action by next weekend, you probably won’t be seeing any action.
But the good news is regradless of how things unfold, the owls have discovered your nesting box and may well be back next spring …
Other thoughts welcome.

They are so cool. I’m afraid I do not have much to report on the owl from over here. Mrs Grey owl was often seen at the opening of the box for weeks, which made me imagine that there were owlets crowding the inside. However, she is not seen at the box anymore, not even at dusk. And it has been several days since I have seen (too dark to tell if it was Mrs Grey or Mr Red) or heard from either of them. Any thoughts, Jim?
