Counting bats
I am a little behind the eightball in my bat count this year. I am supposed to do two for the state Endangered and Non-Game Species program, and should have done one in May, I think.
But the owls got in the way.
So Patty and I did a count last night by watching the eaves of a neighbor’s house for about a half hour. We counted 39 bats, with most departing around 8:45.
We have have more than twice that number in the past, but the neighbor plugged up a hole in the attic over the past winter or two (can’t blame the neighbor for wanting to keep bats from inside the attic).
We will count once again in August, then send in the form to the state.
