An evening on the Warden’s Watch
Decided to chill by the Warden’s Watch at the Celery Farm on Thursday evening, but I soon discovered I wasn’t the only one with that idea.
There to greet me was Mr. G.B. Heron, unsuccessfully pretending to be a bump on a log.
Then there was Mr. G.W. Egret, decked out in summer whites — which no doubt he also wears down South during the winter.
On a limb above me was an Eastern kingbird, shagging flies like a latter-day Willie Mays.
Below the kingbird was an industrious young chicadee, looking for a spot to open a branch office.
Finally, on the peninsula to the left, sat what I think was a yellow warbler. If you squint at the image below long enough, you might persuade yourself I was right.
If you disagee, all I can say is: Come see for yourself.
Sometimes this is one magical spot.
