On Friday, I was at Lake Tappan Reservoir for a story I am working on for The Record, and I came across the bug above.
I am the first to confess that I am horrible at bug identification, but this one was something I don’t recall seeing ever.
I thought it was a grasshopper at first, but gray? When it jumped, it appeared to have wings. It was maybe two inches long.
I love the "rock camouflage" look.
Can anybody help with an ID?
I think it’s a Carolina Locust… I took a picture of it the other day as well… when it flies it looks like a butterfly.
