Red-breasted nuthatch
Had a nice rare treat at the Celery Farm yesterday morning — a red-breasted nuthatch.
This guy is rarely seen in these parts nowadays.
I had not seen one in five years after one had hung out at my suet feeder for a couple of days in February 2002.
Other birders say they have not seen any in a while either.
This guy was at the Warden’s Watch, going up and down and around in nuthatch fashion.
Meanwhile, the cedar waxwings continue to put on a daily show at the Warden’s Watch. I have never seen views like this — especially of the dabs of red on the wing-feather tips
. Not bad for one morning.

Gosh, I didn’t realize they are becoming rare. I’ve had them visit every year at my feeder in Ramsey. In fact, I just pointed one out to my mom who was visiting last week. She is from Monmouth County, NJ and had never seen one.
Cheers!
