Incorporating the Celery Farm and Screech Owl Companion blogs
Rare sparrow!
This just in: Ace birder Rob Fanning saw a rare sharp-tailed sparrow this morning at the Green Way at the north end of the Celery Farm.
He and ace birder John Workman were unsure whether it was a Nelson’s Sharp-tailed Sparrow or a Saltmarsh Sharp-tailed Sparrow.
I zipped over and, along with photographer Kumar Patel, got a few shots. Then crackerjack birder Fred Weber arrived and got a better look, and we took a couple other shots.
The thinking is that it is likely a Saltmarsh Sharp-tailed Sparrow.
I make no claim to the photos’ quality. The bird was small and secretive and stayed in the shadows.
More in the bird:

I am posting the few decent shots I have in hopes they help with the ID

Very Cool! I saw my first this year and the facial pattern sure looked like that one on the top.-Birdforum has an identification section where dozens of people will give you your confirmation.
