Incorporating the Celery Farm and Screech Owl Companion blogs

I heard an owl ask my name

Last night around 2:30, my wife and I awoke to the sound of a screech owl calling near our backyard. He called for about 20 minutes, an eerie serenade, that long trilling whoo-ooo-ooo-ooo-ooo.

whoo-ooo-ooo-ooo-ooo.

whoo-ooo-ooo-ooo-ooo.

But you get the idea.

Alas, we found no screech owl in the nesting box this morning.

Still too warm out, I suppose.

    Hi there!
Sorry I haven’t checked in for a while. Thank you for the offer on borrowing the bird cam. I respectfully decline though and am putting one on my Christmas list. Jeff, will be thrilled to research it all. I think you are correct in it being too warm for the owls to settle in.
    Cheers!

  • Our local Great-horned Owls have started calling again. I know they nest as early as January. Are they already begining to re-establish their territory and/or pair bonds?
