A couple of thoughtful birders reported that two concerned boys had pulled a turtle trap from Lake Appert, in the first big cove past the Spillway.

With help, I removed the mesh trap, cut it open, and released 10 painted turtles.

I brought the trap, called a conger trap, to the police station and filed a report.

If you see anyone trapping anything at the Celery Farm, please ask them to stop and call the police if necessary: 201-825-1900.
