OWL: Ace catches Zzzzzz’s
My neighbor Ace stuck his head out of the opening in the owl box during the day a little while back, in bright sunshine.
I had not seen him sleeping in the opening on so bright a day before, so I put an extender on my telephoto and got this
shot.
Just out of curiosity, I dug up a shot of the screch owl who moved in a year earlier, to see if it was the original Ace.
The photo was taken on a cloudier day, without an extender, so it has been "blown up" a bit more.
I am thinking it’s the same guy.
How about you?

That is great news.

Jim, my screech owl is back!! I have looked
for him each night since I put the new owl house up in the same place as the old one. Tonight he flew over my head in the backyard at about 1o pm. I do not know if he is the same one but I am hoping he or she is. -
Regarding Crissy’s comment–I smell another contest commin’ on.

I’m no expert, but they look the same to me. If not, it could be one of last year’s babies. So, if it isn’t Ace, it could be Ace Junior, or the Ace in Spades.

I think the only way to tell would be to compare the lines on his head. He’s not at the same angle, so it is too hard to say.

You asking me? I’m no owl expert, but enjoy the pictures none the less.

Uhoh! I dont think it’s the same guy. The older picture, the markings under the beak are different….
