Give ’em shelter

When I took down my first screech-owl nesting box, I wasn’t sure what to do with it.
While trying to figure out where to put it, I placed it on the ground near the feeders.
The birds and small mammals have been using it ever since — including a squirrel who was trying to escape the talons of a red-tailed hawk. Some birds will sit atop it while others go inside — sometimes at the same time.
Pictured here are a Carolina wren and a modo.

What a cute picture! And apparently the old house was a great location for the squirrel.
It reminds me of our “shelter” near the bird feeder. I took the old pumpkin and cut two holes in it (top and bottom) then I turned it on it’s side. The squirrels can get inside and eat the pumpkin and get out of the snow for a few minutes.
