Wonderful (wood duck) World video
And now for something completely different:
Last Memorial Day, I filmed this 34-second video of a female wood duck flying into her nesting box.
At the time, the wood duck was landing on the box, then flying inside, on a fairly regular basis.
No wonder. As it turned out, she was sitting on at least nine eggs.
I realized that I should shoot a video of the wood duck flying into the box because no one could believe that a duck could fit through that small opening.
My wife and I had some friends over for dinner, and I was keeping one eye on the wood duck box to make sure I would not miss Mrs. Wood Duck’s arrival.
The trouble was, one of our guests was a kindergarten student who wanted to sing her graduation song for everyone just as the female wood duck landed atop the box.
I asked our young friend to wait to sing her song until I had finished filming, but you know how kids are.
So I hit the "record button," the wood duck took wing, and our young friend happened to burst into song — much to my chagrin.
This video is the result.
It has been trimmed a bit in the beginning and the end, but what you see and hear is just how it all happened.
It wasn’t until I downloaded the video that I realized that there might be something to this little accident.
In these cynical times, this sweet moment has stayed with me.
And now that I have a way for people to view videos easily on the blog, I thought it migt be worth another screening.
Happy holidays.
