I thought I would kick off this day of blogging the Ramsey Christmas Bird Count with a quick post as I head out the door for West Milford.
It is 42 degrees with a light rain that seems to be easing, and the Ramsey count coordinator has already seen fit to issue an e-mail pep talk the night before, pointing out that it rained in the morning of the Cape May count two weeks ago, and they ended up getting 160+ species.
Considering that the Ramsey count has never had more than 88 bird species total in its annual one-day count, I’d say that if our eight teams of approximately 40 people get half that many species, we’ll be successful.
Let’s see. 80 species, 40 people. That’s two species per person. How hard could this be, asked the fool.
   We shall see.
