Bald eagle along the Hackensack River

   Bald_eagle_1227

While running at lunch today, I saw an adult bald eagle flying down the Hackensack River between Hackensack and Teaneck.

The eagle seemed to be harassing some gulls on a frozen stretch of water between Terhune Park in Teaneck and Foschini Park in Hackensack.

It was the first eagle I’ve seen in this locale since last spring and, as always, an inspiring sight.

It is one huge, powerful bird.

I took the photo at the top of this post last week along the Hackensack River, farther north — basically caught the eagle flying overhead and aimed my camera in its direction as it flew away.

I guess I’ll have to take a camera with me when I run at lunchtime from now on.

  • Jim- Funny thing is, I’d stopped a few minutes to scan the river that same day, always hopeful of catching a BE in flight. Then, as I drove on into Bogota, you jogged by headed in the other direction. I would have seen this fellow fly by if I’d just stayed a minute or two more!
