Ace away
Only time will tell if I erred big-time, but a tree service was in my backyard this morning to fell a tree that had been leaning at a 45-degree angle for quite some time. I was a bit concerned it might fall on somebody.
When I activated the nest-cam monitor today, there was no Ace.
My guess is that the sawing spooked him — I wish I had been watching.
I had phoned the tree service two months ago, before Ace
had started living in the nexting box maybe 10 yards away, and I had
sort of forgotten about it.
I know that the tree service was extremely busy and could not get to it until now. My fault.
At this point, one might say it’s best to just let the chips fall where they may.
There’s still plenty of time before breeding season, and the nesting box is a prime location, so I am guessing (and really, really hoping) that Ace returns soon.
At least now the tree can’t fall on him.

I am optimistic that Ace will return, though he did not come back this morning.
If I had been thinking, I would have postponed the tree cutting until after owl season.
Birds of prey can be very skittish. Best not to disturb them. -
I’m sure this is just a temporary situation and the owl will return shortly. No owl in my owl box yet, so I am hoping that I get lucky soon.
