Good News Bears

I did a story for The Record today on the 10 bear cubs that had been orphaned late last spring. Their  moms were killed after being found rummaging through garbage in residential areas of northwest New Jersey.
The young bears are all doing great, but running up huge bills. The cubs, which weighed around 10 pounds or so when they were brough to Woodlands Wildlife Refuge last June now weigh close to 100 pounds. They each eat a pound or two of acorns a day as part of their diet.
I was not aware that a wildlife rehab center in New Jersey specialized in bears, or that it had to raise all its money on its own, with no help from the state.
The bears have cost the refuge more than $50,000 to save.
Anyone interested in helping out can go to this site.
