FISH STORY: Heritage trout

I have a story in The Record today about a nifty study on New Jersey’s brook trout, which have been swimming in the same brooks — and the same gene pools — for the past 10,000 years.
Although many of the brook trout in larger bodies of water have interbred with hatchery-raised trout — affecting their genetic makeup — these guys have pretty much the same genetic makeup.
After I had interviewed the researcher and filed the story, my editor asked a question that never occurred to me:
Do these brook trout taste any different?
  My story is here.
