BIRDING: Great feeder
When it comes to feeders, I have three guiding principles: The closer to the house the better, the less the mess the better, and the cheaper the better.
That’s why I like the suet feeder at the right.
It has suction cups, so it attaches right to a window.
It takes a woodpecker nut mix that attracts woodpeckers, chickadees and titmice.
And because it’s nuts, not suet, it does not splatter fat all over the window or melt in warmer weather; instead, it scatters nut crumbs on the window sill for birds to sit and eat them. Some like to sit and look in the window.
The nutcakes cost around $2.50, but they last a while, and the up-close views you get of many backyard birds are unsurpassed.
For a nutcake like me, they’re perfect.
