The long-delayed red-fox video
I did a video of the young red foxes at the Celery Farm a few weeks back, but decided not to post it because I did not want to draw any more attention to the den than had already been created.
Deputy Marsh Warden Mike Limatola and I naively thought that people would have enough sense not to go close to the den.
Wrong.
We spent over an hour creating and putting up signs and roping off the area. We figured that would keep people away.
Wrong. Someone even stole one of the ropes.
I called the police, and they put up "Do Not Cross" police tape all over, and a few jerks ignored that.
As a result, I no longer tell anyone about nesting birds or other young families. It is highly stressful for them, and they have nowhere to go. Up-close flash photography is even worse.
So now that the foxes "have left the building," I am comfortable posting the video. It was filmed at a respectful distance, which is why the little foxes aren’t bigger on the screen.
Sorry about that, but better cautious than thoughtless.

Thanks for the video – to bad that some people think that roping off an area does not pertain to THEM! I still appreciate seeing the video after the fact – it is wonderful just to know that these creatures are there. Please continue to share “after the fact” videos.

Nice video. What a stressful story, though. I can sympathize. It’s a shame.
