In the evening, earlier in the week, young barn swallows would fly a bit around Lake Appert, then land on a branch of a tree right next to the Warden’s Watch to wait for Mom to feed them.

  The thinking is that these are the barn swallows that nested at the Red Barn at Crestwood Lake, and they were taking the kids over to the Celery Farm so they could learn to fly.
   Later in the week, the young swallows were still perching wirthin feet of the Warden’s Watch, but they had learned to feed themselves. They had graduated from learner’s permits to pilot’s licenses.
